Somber Escape

Shopping is therapeutic, not only because we get to "treat" ourselves with purchases or pampering our senses. Shopping allows us a relaxed one on one time with ourselves. A moment where we tap in to what makes us happy, what do we want, what are we like. It's during shopping where we seem to focus on ourselves, our well being. Happiness is not a goal, or a point you are supposed to reach. Happiness comes from constant well being, taking care of our basic needs.

It might be the winter, or it might me my new found interest in sensory pleasure.
Make more time for pleassure will me my life mantra in 2014. Afterall, what is the purpose of working so hard and saving so much if we don't enjoy our moundain life.

With a new found resolution I searched and searched for brands rhat created this genderless lifestyles through their garments and came up with a few that tickled my fancy.

Mens Fashion Week: Milan, Fendi SS14

Nomadism is currently very popular in the fashion industry and Fendi has understood Nomadic living and incorporated it not only to the show venue but also in their collection. This nomadic inspiration / theme is really present in Fendi's menswear show, specially with  their Parkas and the concept of being multi-purpose and the desert motif in the show. Other than Dries Van Noten  Spring 2013 RTW I haven't seen any other houses have capture what nomadism truly is.

Most labels and brands have translated nomadic living or nomadism as miss-matched prints and styling like gypsies. However, nomadism is about making what you have work in all situations. Your clothes are your home, and this has been an idea that became a belief for me.

Academy of Art graduate Fashion show

I believe the title does a fine job at describing what this event is based on, but I will elaborate.
Every year the Academy of Art throws a big event for the public for them to see the amazing pieces that the students have created.

This year the show was a great success, it was such a big event to the point where the guests could not fit. I am not kidding; the number of people that showed up for the show exceeded the expectation of the planning committee. After V.I.Ps and the media were seated it became a first come, first served situation. It was a seating frenzy!

At first i was glad I wasn't dressing because this time there were way more outfits and if you have never dressed for a fashion show let me tell you this, it is super fast pace and you are on your toes running around. Well to my surprise being an usher was not better, as I thought it would be.

Bringing this to an end, people will sit where they want to. However, the audience seemed to love the show and the students work.
Oh! and I met Max Azria.

And I will leave you with a video of the pre-show

San Francisco Gala, standing Ovation!

Well I guess it's time to blog about the past events I've been involved with. First I will start with the San Francisco National Historical association Gala where our school was invited to showcase their finest garments.

My assignment was to dress the models, it's not as fun as you would imagine it to be. (honestly) The day was very cold and windy (your average San Franciscan weather) and since the catering needed the basement the models had to be dressed in a tent set outside.

Since I was backstage in this situation, I don't now if the audience enjoyed the show.
